Project Specialist ACDI VOCA


ACDI/VOCA is a global development design and delivery partner based in Washington, D.C. We have implemented effective economic and social development projects around the world since 1963. Our areas of expertise include: Agriculture, Economic Growth, Resilience, Finance, and Equity & Inclusion. In 2019, we implemented 63 programs in 24 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

We are seeking a D.C.-based Project Specialist (PS) who will be responsible for backstopping ACDI/VOCA projects, new business proposals, and technical initiatives. The PS demonstrates proficiency in donor regulations, project requirements and corporate systems, and performs tasks with autonomy, flexibility, and good judgement. The PS works collaboratively across multiple teams and provides day-to-day guidance to junior staff. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a passion for international development and a long-term interest in economic growth.

Primary activities include but are not limited to: drafting and editing scopes of work for consultants, coordinating field mobilization and repatriation of staff and volunteers, writing and editing project reports and documents, drafting correspondence to the donor, monitoring budgets, processing invoices and payments to subcontractors and vendors, assisting with administration of grants and procurements, maintaining project document libraries on SharePoint, and taking occasional trips to the field to assist with project operations. In addition, the PS is expected to participate in new business proposals, which includes maintaining the proposal calendar and communications, assisting with proposal research, collecting documents, formatting CVs, coordinating and/or conducting capture trips, maintaining proposal document libraries on SharePoint, and performing other duties as required.

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in International Studies, Agriculture, Finance, Economics or a related field (additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of advanced degree). Minimum of two years of experience in international development required, including one year of administrative experience. USAID/USDA experience and experience living in a developing country strongly preferred. Fluency in English and professional proficiency in French or Spanish are required. Ability and willingness to travel to less developed countries required. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven ability to work independently and as part of the team, strong organizational skills, ability to be effective in a fast-pace environment, demonstrated resourcefulness, leadership and initiative to learn new skills, as well as positive and constructive attitude.
