Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission- Australia; Advisor and Coordinator for the Pacific and the direct supervision of the Project Development Officer (PDO) in Canberra, the incumbent will assist in implementing all aspects of the project development portfolio for IOM in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the implementation of Project Development action plans and development of IOM and UN strategies in the Pacific.
  2. Assist in providing support to IOM Country Offices in the Pacific on Results-Based Management (RBM), Project Development & Implementation (PDI), and the roll-out of the PRIMA system.
  3. Assist in identifying and contacting potential donors and partners, as well as researching available funding opportunities for project development; develop donor profiles, including with non-traditional donors.
  4. Assist in strengthening effective IOM knowledge management, including project tracking, data capture and analysis, monitoring and evaluation, etc. This includes updating the project development database, monitoring project development initiatives, and analysis of trends and patterns in order to provide timely information for strengthening future project development initiatives.
  5. Provide technical and administrative assistance to the PDO, and related guidance to colleagues in Country Offices at each stage of the project development cycle. This involves collecting and analyzing background information/data, problem analysis, and development of results frameworks and budgets.
  6. Assist in drafting reports and communications to maintain regular liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Monitor IOM and non-IOM national and global media relating to migration and share relevant stories and activities with PDO and relevant colleagues.
  8. Support communication strategy through the drafting of situation reports, visibility materials, press briefing notes and social media, to showcase IOM’s work in Australia and the Pacific.
  9. Other duties that may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

· University degree in Political or Social Sciences, Refugee and Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience;

· Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with five years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

· Demonstrated expertise in project development and knowledge of project implementation modalities and monitoring and evaluation.

· Knowledge or experience of regional (Pacific) and national migration-related issues an advantage.

· Experience in developing and delivering training an asset.

· Experience in using SharePoint and Microsoft Office 365

Prior experience working for IOM, a UN agency or another international organization is an advantage.

Skills

· High aptitude in data collection and maintenance.

· Superior analytical skills.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Languages

Fluency in English is required.

The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
