Coordinator, Teacher Development Support – Vientiane, Laos, PDR

The Program

BEQUAL supports education priorities of the Government of Laos described in the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) Education Sector Development Plan and is aligned with the strategic directions set out in Australia’s Education Delivery Strategy. BEQUAL is designed to be implemented over a total of 10 years. Phase 1 has been extended until June 2022 which will be followed by Phase 2. BEQUAL continues to support MoES with the primary curriculum reform with a focus on primary curriculum development, teacher professional development and integration of inclusive education principles.

The Position

The Coordinator – Teacher Development Support supports the coordination and monitoring of BEQUAL supported initiatives at sub-national level to enhance the quality of primary teaching. A key focus of this position is strengthening the BEQUAL Curriculum Implementation Team (CIT) with technical inputs to support DESBs to provide ongoing professional development for primary teachers. The role is also responsible for supporting small grant systems as well as monitoring and data collection.

The Person

The ideal candidate has a relevant tertiary qualification in primary education plus experience developing or delivering continuing professional development programs/activities for primary teachers. You will have demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with government counterparts and MEL as well as a sound knowledge of issues of inclusive education specifically related to gender, ethnicity and disability.

Along with effective interpersonal and communication skills, you will display self-motivation and the ability to work effectively as an individual or as part of a flexible, dynamic and culturally diverse team. Together with your good English proficiency (written and spoken), your ability to maintain a high standard of work and attention to detail, you will display strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.

Experience teaching at primary school or similar teaching experience is desirable.
