Associate, Development Office – Maternity Cover


GAIN is seeking a dynamic and resourceful Associate to join our Development Office and support the management team with coordinating, planning and reporting on our Dutch portfolio. The Associate will also provide support to the resource mobilization, donor relations and reporting functions across GAIN, including support to country and programme teams in proposal development.

Please note: this is a fixed term role, expected to last for 6.5 months, and can be based at either our office in Utrecht, The Netherlands or London, United Kingdom.

Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. About the Role

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands is a core strategic partner for GAIN and our largest single donor. It is therefore essential that GAIN maintains a strong relationship with our contacts in the Hague and ensures efficient internal coordination of our Dutch portfolio. The Director, Policy and External Relations is the key focal point, supported by the Manager, GAIN Netherlands as lead of our Dutch Engagement. This role will provide support to both of these and lead the coordination of GAIN’s Dutch portfolio – particularly with regards to planning and reporting. As a member of the Development Office, this role will also provide support to the resource mobilization, donor relations and reporting functions across GAIN, including support to country and programme teams in proposal development.

This role is being sourced to provide maternity cover and is available on a fixed term basis for a period of 6.5 months, from mid-October 2021 to end of April 2022. We are ideally looking for a full time member of staff, but will consider part time applications at (at least 80% per week).

Specific Responsibilities include;

  • Coordinating the planning and reporting for Dutch grants across GAIN programmes and countries, including setting timetables and formats, collating inputs and editing
  • Coordinating response to requests for information from key Ministry and internal stakeholders
  • Providing support to engagement between GAIN and Ministry centrally (Dutch Engagement) or in-country (with missions) as led by relevant country and other directors
  • Supporting in programme development, proposals and bid processes as opportunities arise under supervision of the Head of Development Office
  • Maintaining central databases and information sharing processes
  • Contributing to Development Office and PER activities as required

About You

You should have experience in building and leading successful multi-stakeholder partnerships in fast moving environments, and have experience and a familiarity with Dutch Ministry stakeholders and reporting requirements. Ideally, you will have a good understanding of GAIN, Dutch aid priorities and other development ongoing in The Netherlands, and have knowledge of food and nutrition security. Underpinning this experience, you should have strong analytical and multi-tasking skills along with a clear and systematic way of thinking that demonstrates good judgement, expert problem solving and creativity.

Additionally, it would be advantageous for you to hold a degree in a relevant field, or otherwise hold equivalent experience. Fluency in English and Dutch is essential.

About our Offer

The starting salaries for this vacancy are as follows:

EUR 39,731 – 42,563 per annum for candidates in The Netherlands, dependent on experience
GBP 31,771 – 34,029 per annum for candidates in the UK, dependent on experience
